Mission Statement

We the Church of Saint John the XXIII are called to catechize Catholic families. We are to teach others about the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ. For the mission of Catechesis is to evangelize the people of God, and to become disciples of Christ.

Jesus Christ through His ministry on earth initiated our Sacraments. Therefore, we are a Sacramental Church wherein we come to worship our God. Then as Catholics we know the center of our faith is the Sacrament of Eucharist where our Lord is truly present.

  • The Catechist must be notified before class about early dismissal.
  • Satisfactory attendance is a requirement in completing their catechetical formation.

Arrival and Dismissal:

All grades from 1st through 8th grade

Classroom management alternatives:

The cooperation and respect for everyone in a classroom is essential. Catechist will state the rules in keeping the classroom environment a learning and respectful place of communication. Therefore, the child/youth behavior is vital for any learning environment. If a child is very disruptive the following procedures can take place:

  • First incident child/youth will be reminded of what is expected and the consequences if misbehavior continues. The catechist/aide will talk with the child or youth aside and remind him of what type of behavior is expected of him/her.
  • Second incident the child/youth will be sent to the Catechetical office and discuss the behavior with the Director.
  • Third incident that child/youth will be sent to the Catechetical office and bring his or her textbook and do classroom work for the reminder of the class. At that time the parent or guardian will be informed about the situation with the Director.

NOTE:

Our Catechists/aides are all volunteers. They generously offer their time/talent and treasure to our Lord and to the Ministry of Catechesis. They will spend a minimum of 2 or 3 hours weekly to the ministry. In their service to our Catholic Community we prayerfully ask our Lord Jesus to richly Bless them in their work. We give each one gratitude and many thanks.

Retreats:

If any retreat is held outside parish grounds each retreat participant, who is under 18 years old must have their parent/guardian sign a permission slip.

Parental/Guardian Responsibilities

Mass attendance is part of an important responsibility of Sacramental preparation and the overall mission of the Ministry of Catechesis. Coming to and participating in Catechetical classes is just one part of their interaction in the program. We are Catholic Christians and that means that we worship the Lord in the celebration of the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist at mass. As a family worshipping together at mass, this becomes a Blessing for all the members of the family. Our Pastoral team and our Catechetical team would like to see you, attending mass, as a family. Mass is a top priority for all Catholic families, since we are a Eucharistic Community:

  • Parent must ensure that their child/youth attend class regularly. In addition they must be dropped off on time and picked up no later then 15 minutes after dismissal time.
  • Parent or designated adult to sign out child or teen.
  • Parent must actively participate in their child/youth catechetical formation as they also are a great help in their Catechetical formation.
  • Parent/guardian should note that our Catechetical Program follows diocesan policies on the Sacramental preparation for each child or youth.
  • Please remember as a Catholic Christian Community we encourage respectful and responsible communication amongst each other.
  • If the parents have any problem or conflict with any volunteer, catechist's aid or personnel in the catechism program, make an appointment with the Director or Coordinators.

Student Responsibilities

  • Attendance at Sunday masses and liturgical celebrations.
